BRUSSELS, October 14. /TASS/. There is no immediate threat from Russia, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, urging greater preparedness for a confrontation with Moscow.

"We see no imminent threat against NATO territory," he said at a press conference in Tallinn during his visit to Estonia. The alliance’s press service aired the statement.

Rutte urged NATO countries to prepare for confrontation with Russia and follow Estonia’s lead in boosting defense spending, "to stay calm, carry on, which means investing in defense, and particularly make sure that Ukraine has what it needs."

Russia has repeatedly rejected claims that it might allegedly attack NATO member states. Last year, President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to "secure an agreement on mutual non-aggression with Western countries to address the concerns that exist in this regard." Later, at a meeting organized by TASS with the heads of the world’s leading news agencies, the Russian leader emphasized that claims about Russia’s allegedly impending attack on Europe are not just nonsense, but also constitute a provocation and disinformation aimed at fooling Western populations.
