Sri Lankan military show heightened interest in UAVs, EW — Russian general

MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Personnel of the Sri Lankan army studied drones and electronic warfare systems with particular interest during the Russian-Sri Lankan Wolverine Trail 2026 maneuvers, the exercise commander, Hero of Russia Major General Semyon Nikolaev said.

"We made very active use of both unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and [measures] to counter enemy UAVs, and we did everything possible to teach Sri Lankan troops how to deal with enemy UAVs. They are very interested in this area; they absorbed [information] like sponges at the training sites–specifically regarding UAVs and the electronic warfare systems we presented to them," he said.

The general added that Sri Lankan military personnel learned to operate Russian weapons "at a decent level" during the maneuvers.

"The exercise passed excellently. We achieved all the set goals. And most importantly, a bond and mutual understanding developed between the two nations during the exercise," he emphasized.

The Wolverine Trail 2026 joint Russian-Sri Lankan military maneuvers took place in the Primorsky Region from September 22 to 27. The exercise centered on joint operations by special forces to eliminate illegal armed groups with the active use of reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial vehicles. A series of cultural and sports events aimed at strengthening friendly ties between the military contingents of the two countries were also organized as part of the maneuvers.
