Lethal autonomous weapons becoming military reality, UN chief says

UNITED NATIONS, September 22. /TASS/. Lethal autonomous weapons are moving from science fiction to military reality as humans increasingly hand some of their power to machines, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said during the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

"Humans are increasingly handing power to machines, with artificial agents going rogue and lethal autonomous weapons going from science fiction to military reality," Guterres said.

According to the UN chief, power is shifting in three directions at once. In addition to humans ceding some authority to machines, new centers of economic, political and technological influence are emerging, while a significant share of power is shifting from governments to a small group of private corporations and individuals.
