Indian Chief of Army Staff discusses deepening military cooperation with Russia

NEW DELHI, September 18. /TASS/. India’s Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth has discussed the development of military cooperation with Russia in Moscow, the Indian Army reported on its X social media platform.

During his official visit to Russia, the Indian commander visited the Russian Defense Ministry and held a meeting with Deputy Defense Minister General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. The parties discussed issues related to joint capacity building, professional military exchanges, and ways to expand military cooperation, the statement said.

On Thursday, Seth also visited the Main Command of the Russian Ground Forces. "Talks were held on issues of mutual interest, with an emphasis on deepening military cooperation, expanding training programs, and developing the combat capabilities of the two countries’ armies," the Indian Army noted.

As part of the visit, the Indian general took part in a flower laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow, and met with India’s Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar. "During the meeting, they discussed issues of Indian-Russian bilateral cooperation, as well as measures to strengthen ties in the defense sector," the statement says.

Seth is also scheduled to visit St. Petersburg, where he will tour the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy and hold meetings with its leadership and faculty.

"This visit reflects the importance attached by both countries to sustained military diplomacy and Army-to-Army engagement. These events are expected to further deepen military cooperation and reinforce the enduring defense relationship between India and Russia," the Indian Ministry of Defense stated in a press release.
