CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins appeared to take a subtle jab at President Trump after months of insults from the commander-in-chief.
The host of The Source is one of several female journalists whom Trump has insulted during his second term. The commander-in-chief has described her as everything from “crazy” to “nasty” after being asked questions by the journalist.
The latter insult stems from Trump infamously branding former First Lady Hillary Clinton a “nasty woman” during a heated 2016 presidential debate.
Collins appeared to take a swipe at the president over his use of the phase, when she hosted director Alex Gibney on The Source last Friday.
“America Needs Nasty Women,” a label on a blue mug positioned beside Collins read.

Trump has continued to use the phrase into his second presidency labeling Collins as “nasty” on Truth Social as recently as December 2025 when she asked about the cost of his ballroom project.
The president has levied a slew of other insults against Collins since then, claiming in June 2026 that she “never smiles” and claiming that she has “hatred in her eyes.”
Complaining about wider press coverage in an October interview with TIME magazine, Trump tore into Collins once again.
“So at a certain point, you say: ‘What’s the purpose of like this crazy Kaitlan Collins?’” he claimed. “She’s a very average person. She’s the most unhappy young person I’ve ever seen.”
In a rare response to Trump, Collins read his quote aloud on her show and asked: “Did I mention that was unprompted? I digress.”
Collins has long covered events at the White House, currently serving as CNN’s chief White House correspondent.
When insulted by Trump, she has usually refrained from responding beyond continuing with her line of questioning. During an appearance on The Daily Show in July, Collins explained why she has held back from swapping insults with the commander-in-chief.
“It’s not really about me, and I don’t want it to be about my reaction,” she said, adding: “It’s important to put the reminder back on the work, on the question, and on the non-answers that we get.”
