A 300-foot roller coaster at Six Flags’ Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio has been shut down due to a safety issue — a week after a parkgoer in Georgia fell to his death on a ride.

The Millennium Force coaster immediately closed Friday after a small bracket dislodged from a car and landed in a guest area, Sara Gordon from Six Flags Entertainment Corp. confirmed to Cleveland 19 News.

The bracket didn’t hit any guests or employees, and no injuries were reported.

Millennium Force was set to be closed until an internal review and a state inspection were conducted to ensure the safety of those in the park, a Six Flags spokesperson told the local outlet.

It’s unclear whether the ride has reopened as of Monday afternoon. The Independent has reached out to Cedar Point for comment.

Millennium Force, which opened in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium, reaches speeds of 93 mph and “shoots riders over hills, past lagoons and through tunnels,” according to Cedar Point’s website.

The incident comes days after a guest at Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta fell out of his seat on the Goliath coaster. Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, a 42-year-old teacher, was thrown off the 200-foot roller coaster on October 12, hitting several people before falling to his death.

Six Flags Over Georgia reopened Friday, but Goliath remains temporarily closed. Georgia’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Kariem’s brother-in-law, Joshua Nelson, told Atlanta News First that Kariem had visited the park with his wife, daughter and niece for a birthday celebration.

“His last words were to my daughter, and they were: This is my favorite ride. I’m so excited to be here,” Nelson said.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences remain with the individual involved, their family, friends and loved ones,” Six Flags Over Georgia President Richard Pretlow said in a statement.

“The safety of our guests and team members remains our highest priority. We maintain rigorous inspection, maintenance and operational procedures that meet or exceed industry standards.”

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation had been struggling with lower attendance even before last Monday’s tragic incident.

The theme park operator had a net loss of $203 million in its second quarter, compared with a net loss of $100 million during the same time last year, according to earnings reported in early August.

Six Flags saw 13.1 million guest visits in its second quarter — about a 7 percent decrease from 14.2 million visits a year before, according to the report.
