Qatar Airways suspends flights to Riyadh, Dammam

DOHA, October 13. /TASS/. Qatar Airways has temporarily suspended flights to and from the Saudi cities of Riyadh and Dammam for safety reasons, the airline said in a notice.

The carrier said it is closely monitoring developments in Saudi Arabia in coordination with the relevant authorities. "Due to the current situation, flights to and from Riyadh (RUH) and Dammam (DMM) are temporarily suspended," the notice said. The airline stressed that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation announced an extension of the closure of Riyadh’s airport following recent attacks, citing the need to "complete the necessary procedures to verify the safety of airport facilities and their operational readiness in coordination with the competent authorities."

Yemen’s rebel Ansar Allah movement – the Houthis – attacked the airport in the Saudi capital on October 10 and 11. According to Saudi authorities, the first strike killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300. The second attack killed one person, injured 11 others and caused damage to the airport.
