Representative Nancy Mace says that Lindsay Clancy should face “public execution” after killing her own children at her home in Massachusetts.

Clancy has been at the center of a high-profile court case that ended in a mistrial earlier this month. Her defense team argued that their client was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she carried out the January 2023 killings of her children, who were aged between 5 years old and 8 months old.

Mace, an outgoing South Carolina representative who did not seek reelection in order to pursue a doomed gubernatorial bid, was blunt when she gave her opinion on the case to a TMZ reporter.

“Her children are dead. She should be dead too,” Mace said on Monday, clarifying: “She should get the death penalty.”

The Republican continued: “It should be public. It should be a public execution.”

The exchange came after a TMZ reporter asked Mace about attempts by Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, to get President Donald Trump to intervene in the case. Reddington told CBS News Boston that Trump had an enormous amount of “clout” and that he could reach out to Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz, a Republican.

Trump has since distanced himself from the suggestion, telling reporters that it was a “state situation, not a federal (sic).”

Mace dubbed Reddington’s plea as a “publicity stunt,” as well as “nasty” and “ugly,” with Wasserman continuing to question her.

“She killed her kids. She deserves nothing less. Three kids are dead,” Mace said. Asked to expand on what she meant, she added: “It could be by a firearm; it could be the electric chair. I don’t care.”

The reporter responded by questioning whether Mace wanted to see Clancy, 36, executed via electric chair in front of a crowd.

“A hundred percent,” said Mace. “She’s a serial killer. She should get the electric chair. She should get the death penalty.”

Mace doubled down, “It should be public. It should be a warning to women everywhere. You don’t kill your kids.”

Clancy, a former labor-and-delivery nurse, has not denied accusations that she killed her three children, instead pleading not guilty to murder charges specifically. A jury reached an 11-1 majority in favor of acquittal by reason of insanity due to postpartum psychosis, with one holdout before the case collapsed.

A court hearing on the case has been scheduled for September 29. Until then, Clancy is set to be held in a psychiatric facility.

The Independent has contacted Reddington for comment.
