Yemeni government announces general mobilization to fight Houthis

DOHA, September 28. /TASS/. The internationally recognized government of Yemen has announced a general mobilization in the republic to fight the rebel Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement, the government’s SABA news agency reported.

"The House of Representatives [Yemeni parliament’s lower chamber] <…> resolved to approve a request by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council [Rashad al-Alimi] to declare a general mobilization," the legislative body’s press service said.

The measure takes effect immediately upon announcement and will remain in force until the causes that prompted its adoption are resolved.

In line with the document, the measure was introduced "to counter escalation on the part of the Houthis, defend citizens and the republican system <…>, as well as to preserve state sovereignty."

Lawmakers have urged political forces to put their differences aside and underscored the importance of coordinating efforts with the Saudi-led Arab coalition.
