Yemen death toll rises to 838 after fighting intensifies — WHO

NEW YORK, September 29. /TASS/. The number of people killed in Yemen since the escalation of the conflict inside the country has risen to 838, while another 4,400 people have been injured, the Associated Press reported, citing data from the World Health Organization (WHO).
On September 22, the WHO reported that 674 people had been killed since the beginning of August and another 3,000 had been injured. The death toll continues to rise as the conflict further escalates.
In early September, the rebel Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) launched an offensive in southwestern Yemen. Alongside their ground advance, the Houthis began carrying out missile and drone strikes against coastal areas of the Red Sea and the vicinity of the city of Taiz, seeking to cut off routes to Mocha and advance toward areas near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait. On September 12, an Ansar Allah politburo member confirmed to TASS that the Houthis had completed an operation to establish control over territories in western Yemen with access to the strait.
