Two young brothers allegedly shot dead by their father in an apparent attempted murder-suicide in Los Angeles have been identified by their devastated family.

Jimmy Gramajo, 4, and his 11-year-old brother, Osmani Gramajo, were killed Sunday afternoon in the city’s Pico-Union neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Their father, identified by family members as 35-year-old Adolfo Gramajo, allegedly shot both children before turning the gun on himself, police said.

The man survived the apparent suicide attempt and was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The LAPD has not officially confirmed the suspect’s identity.

The boys’ grandparents identified them to NBC4, while the suspect’s parents confirmed his name to the station.

Boys were allegedly shot after McDonald’s visit

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 p.m. near the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Catalina Street.

NBC4 reported that the boys had been spending time with their father during a custody visit and that he allegedly shot them after taking them to McDonald’s.

Both children were rushed to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Records from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner confirmed that the brothers’ deaths were homicides.

Jimmy, whose full name was listed as Jimmy Gramajo Bonilla, died from a close-range gunshot wound to the head.

His older brother, Osmani Gramajo Bonilla, also died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the medical examiner.

Investigators have not established a motive for the killings, and the circumstances surrounding the reported custody arrangement remain unclear.

Community mourns two young brothers

In the aftermath of the shooting, grieving community members and friends gathered near the intersection where the tragedy unfolded.

Video from the scene showed a makeshift memorial taking shape along the sidewalk, with candles, flowers and balloons left in remembrance of the two children.

Police have not announced what charges, if any, the suspect could face as the investigation continues.

Detectives are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

Witnesses or anyone with relevant information can contact LAPD Juvenile Division Detective Wilfredo Ortiz at 213-486-0530.
