Trump’s latest Truth Social rants on AI inspire new calls for his removal under 25th Amendment

President Donald Trump had another busy day on Truth Social Monday, notably ranting about opposition to AI and data centers, which has inspired fresh calls for his removal from office under the 25th Amendment.
Responding to whistleblower warnings about the existential threat posed by the unchecked evolution of artificial intelligence, Trump wrote: “The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!”
He also suggested a “SICK conspiracy” is being waged against the technology by a group of “Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers,” without explaining to whom he was referring and without acknowledging that industry leaders including Sam Altman, Elon Musk and Dario Amodei have conceded the need for a slowdown in the interests of safety.
Trump also reiterated the argument he made last week against allowing China to steal a march on the U.S. and “win” the sector.
A further five posts about the AI “HOAX” followed, along with others blaming high gas prices on Russia’s war with Ukraine and Joe Biden, but not his war with Iran, which has seen the Strait of Hormuz blockaded and global oil shipping badly disrupted as a result.
open image in galleryThe president also used his platform to insist there was no U.S. missile shortage – contrary to the conclusions reached by a new report from the Department of Defense’s inspector general – insist his $5,000 “Trump Dividend” rewarding midterms voters for backing Republicans “will happen” and to hail his new White House helipad and last week’s GOP convention in Texas.
There was also an attack on Bush-era Republican strategist Karl Rove, whom Trump called “so bad for the Republican Party, and completely wrong so often,” asking: “Why does FoxNews and the WSJ keep his RINO Voice alive. The guy is a stone cold loser!”
The president’s posting sprees frequently invite a backlash from anti-Trump pundits. Ex-White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews last week likened the run of memes he posted over the Labor Day weekend to “watching his brain rot in real time.”
His actions also frequently inspire calls from disapproving liberals for his removal under 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which would require Vice President JD Vance and a majority of Trump’s 16-member Cabinet to jointly agree that “the president is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office,” an unlikely prospect given the loyalties in play.
That did not deter MeidasTouch’s Ben Meiselas from renewing the appeal in response to the president’s refusal to engage with the concerns raised about AI’s frightening potential.
open image in gallery“Is this not the most ridiculous cr** you’ve ever heard?” Meiselas asked after reading aloud Trump’s posts and accusing him of cautioning against “killing the golden goose” because he hopes to profit from it.
“Can y’all just impeach and remove and 25th Amendment this guy and throw this criminal in jail where he belongs?”
He continued: “Maybe this is why people who have bankrupted most of their businesses should not be in the Oval Office. Maybe this is why people who have been found civilly liable for sexual assault should not be in the Oval Office.
“This is why people who have been found liable for fraud should not be in the Oval Office. So utterly ridiculous.”
Many others took to X to make the same case in response to Trump’s opposition to regulating AI , including Steve Siebold, president of the International Personal Development Association, who declared: “It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment and evict Trump from office.”
A damning new poll from the University of Massachusetts Amherst published Monday found that 57 percent of Americans are unhappy with the president’s handling of AI, with just 23 percent in favor.
