President Donald Trump is set to meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during his upcoming visit to the city for the U.N. General Assembly.

The encounter is scheduled for Monday at Gracie Mansion, the official mayoral residence, according to Anna Bahr, Mamdani’s communications director.

Bahr noted that the two will discuss key matters affecting the city and New Yorkers.

While confirming the meeting, the White House declined to provide additional details.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist who defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary before winning the general election in November, has frequently served as a political foil for Republicans.

Surprisingly, Trump has often displayed warmth toward Mamdani, appearing charmed by the young mayor.

Their initial meeting following Mamdani’s election was notably cordial, with Trump stating at the White House that the then-mayor-elect would “surprise some conservative people.”

This came despite the Republican president branding Mamdani a “100% Communist Lunatic” throughout the 2025 campaign.

In a February sit-down, Mamdani presented Trump with a mock New York Daily News front page reading “Trump to City: Let’s Build.”

The gesture referenced the famous 1975 headline, ” FORD TO CITY: DROP DEAD,” regarding President Gerald Ford’s vow to veto financial assistance to the city.

Mamdani’s aides explained the gift was intended to demonstrate the positive reception that new federal housing investments could inspire across the city.
