MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. Severstal increased steel production by 2% in January-September 2026 year-on-year to 8.24 mln tons, while pig iron output added 2% to 8.47 mln tons, the company reported.
This comes against the backdrop of last year’s low base, which was due to major repairs.
Sales of metal products were almost flat in the reporting period at 8.26 mln tons.
Q3 steel output was at last year’s level and amounted to 2.72 mln tons, while pig iron production increased by 2% to 2.74 mln tons. Sales of metal products fell by 9% in the third quarter to 2.61 mln tons as semi-finished products were redirected toward the production of finished goods, leading to an associated rise in inventories of both finished and unfinished products.
Sales of high value-added products lost 6% year-on-year between July and September 2026 year-on-year, reaching 1.35 mln tons primarily due to a decline in sales of large-diameter pipes amid weak demand, and a reduction in the production of galvanized steel resulting from the technical upgrading of the continuous hot-dip aluminizing line.
Severstal is a vertically integrated steel and mining company and one of Russia’s largest steel producers. The Cherepovets Steel Mill is the company’s key asset. Its production capacity roughly totals 12 mln tons of steel per year.
