Sen. John Kennedy said Sunday that President Donald Trump “can go from zero to a-hole in about three seconds,” referring to a recent Truth Social post in which Trump shared the cellphone number of Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.).
Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Kennedy (R-La.) said he considers the president his “friend,” but said he should have not given out Cotton’s number.
“He exists loudly. He can be tempestuous,” Kennedy said of Trump.
“I don’t think he should have given out Tom’s cell phone number. I don’t think that’s going to help convince Tom.”
Kennedy then told host Kristen Welker: “And I have your cellphone number, but I promise not to give it out.”
Trump was attacking Cotton over his opposition to a bill, known as the Sunshine Protection Act, that would make daylight saving time permanent.
“To the Great People of Arkansas, please let your Senator know it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate,” Trump wrote. “Call Tom on his cellphone,” he added, followed by a phone number.
Kennedy did not seem to think the particular issue in question was a big deal.
“Every now and then, there are disputes in Congress that have existential significance for the future of Western civilization,” Kennedy told Welker. “Daylight saving time is not one of them. Tom Cotton feels strongly about it. Tom is a rock star senator. If you get between him and what’s best for Arkansas, he’ll devour you like a light snack.”
