Russia calls for deeper biosafety cooperation within CIS — Lavrov

MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Russia welcomes the development of regional cooperation in the field of biological security and calls for deeper interaction among relevant agencies within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"We welcome the development of regional cooperation in the field of biological security and, for our part, are ready to deepen interaction among relevant agencies within the Commonwealth of Independent States," he said in a video address to participants of a seminar on national implementation of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention.

In this regard, Lavrov recalled that such agencies include the Council for Cooperation in Healthcare, the Coordination Council on the Sanitary Protection of Territories of CIS Member States from the Import and Spread of Particularly Dangerous Infectious Diseases, the Coordination Council for Plant Quarantine and the Interstate Council for Cooperation in Veterinary Medicine.
