Polish air force to drop visual ID for alleged air targets from Russia

MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Poland’s Ministry of National Defense will allow the Polish Air Force to shoot down objects in its airspace allegedly coming from Russia based solely on radar data, without the usual requirement for visual identification, Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said.

"The Ministry of National Defense will amend the engagement procedures for objects approaching us from the direction of Russia, replacing the peacetime standard of visual identification with what is known as positive identification," he said at a press conference aired by TVP Info.

Tomczyk clarified that these decisions will be based solely on radar data.

"Up until now, we have not resorted to such capabilities, because, as a rule, they are reserved for wartime or martial law," he said, adding that Poland "is facing the daily risk of drone incursions."

Earlier, Tomczyk said the Polish military has the right to take down all objects that violate the country’s sovereign airspace.
