MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has slammed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who accused Russia of indulging in revisionism, of not knowing the meaning of this word.

"It seems that Merz has added yet another ‘strength’ – a lack of understanding of the meaning of the word ‘revisionism’ – to the list of his strengths," she told TASS. She pointed out that the word "revisionism" comes from the Latin "revisio," meaning "review."

"This notion refers to a policy of reviewing, or revising, established theories, doctrines, or concepts. Which established theories, doctrines, or concepts does Russia insist on reviewing?" she asked.

Russia stands "against Nazism, fascism, colonialism, racism, terrorism, dictatorship," she stressed. "And we declare this openly and honestly – this is what [Russian Foreign Minister Sergey] Lavrov was talking about at the UN General Assembly. So, does this mean that Merz stands for the above-mentioned established obscurantism?"

"It Merz is referring to the post-war order as an ‘established system’ that cannot be revised, then Russia honors the outcome of World War II, the Nuremberg verdicts, the UN Charter, and international law," Zakharova stressed. "So, what did Merz want to say?"

Addressing the German-Dutch corps in Munster earlier, Merz said that "the peaceful order in the continent is being challenged by Russia’s fierce revisionism." According to Merz, as quoted by N-tv, Europe’s security is jeopardized by the conflict in Ukraine. He also said that Berlin is ready for a diplomatic settlement but will continue doing its utmost to support Kiev within NATO.
