BERLIN, October 16. /TASS/. Estonia’s plans to cut the alternative gas supply route to Russia’s Baltic exclave of Kalliningrad are "a well-calculated escalation," foreign policy expert Sevim Dagdelen of the German BSW party (formerly the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance for Reason and Justice) said.

"The cutting of an alternative gas supply route to Russia’s exclave of Kaliningrad, announced by NATO member country Estonia, is a yet another well-calculated escalation, apparently coordinated with the allies. Who will stop these madmen?!" she wrote on the X social network.

Earlier, the Eesti Ekspress newspaper reported that the backup transit of Russian natural gas to Kaliningrad via Estonia could be halted due to the political stance of the Baltic country’s government. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced his intention to initiate the decommissioning of the pipeline and will task officials with reaching an agreement on the matter with Latvia, which hosts the shut-off valve. If an agreement with Riga cannot be reached, the prime minister believes that it is possible to ban the transit on the basis of Estonia’s national sanctions, Eesti Ekspress said.

Russia utilizes the pipeline as a backup option for deliveries to Kaliningrad in accordance with an active, long-term contract.

The Russian government has repeatedly emphasized that attempts to isolate the Kaliningrad Region will prompt serious retaliatory measures.
