US military transport aircraft sends out distress signal over Canada

MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. A US military transport aircraft sent out a distress signal while flying over Canada, a source in local air traffic control services told TASS.

"A Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport aircraft belonging to the US Air Force sent out a distress signal while flying over Canada off the coast of the Gulf of St. Lawrence," the source said, adding that the aircraft had been flying from Reykjavik and, until it sent the distress signal, had been proceeding along its designated route, including over the Atlantic.

According to the source, the plane was commissioned in 1994. He said that the aircraft is preparing for landing at the nearest airport. No further details were provided.
