NEW DELHI, October 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on multipolarity made at the plenary session of the 23rd meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club resonate deeply in India, Indian international affairs expert Malika Pandey told TASS.
"President Putin’s address at the Valdai forum is compelling because it brings clarity to the transformation already underway in international politics. The president’s key point is that the transition to a more multipolar world is not simply a redistribution of power. It is about restoring political agency to nations, civilizations and societies seeking to determine their own path of development. This message resonates deeply in India," she said.
The expert noted that "Russia consistently upholds the principles of sovereignty, strategic independence and building a more representative international order – principles that also underpin India’s foreign policy tradition." "Countries such as India are no longer merely participants in global governance processes – they are increasingly shaping their agenda and priorities," she added.
"It is precisely in this context that the strength of Russian-Indian relations should be viewed. They are based on an exceptional level of strategic trust and mutual respect for each side’s independent choices. President Putin’s warm words about Prime Minister [Indian Prime Minister Narendra] Modi and India itself underscore that these relations are not merely a legacy of the past. They remain relevant to the architecture of the emerging world order," Pandey said.
According to her, the most important conclusion that can be drawn from the Valdai forum is that "diversity does not necessarily have to be a source of instability." "It can become the foundation of a fairer world order, where sovereignty is respected, dialogue remains possible, and different centers of power coexist without losing their distinctiveness. India and Russia have both the necessary experience and strategic confidence to make a significant contribution to creating such an order," the expert concluded.
During yesterday’s Valdai address, Putin said that the international situation will reach a balance some time, and the former hegemon will have to acknowledge the realities of a multipolar world: "Sooner or later, the international situation and the system will reach a state of some kind of stable balance. Undoubtedly, this is a complex, multifaceted, multi·layered process that requires mutual compromises, moving towards each other, and a sober assessment of the situation, including from the West. The former hegemon will inevitably have to acknowledge the realities of a multipolar world.".
