Russia rejects accusations in UN OHCHR report on violence in Ukraine — ambassador

GENEVA, October 2. /TASS/. The accusations against Russia in a report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on sexual violence in the conflict in Ukraine are baseless fabrications, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik said during a discussion of the OHCHR report on sexual violence in the conflict in Ukraine.
"The report presented today is a vivid testimony to the crisis in the international human rights protection system. We regret to note that the UN Human Rights Council platform is once again being used to circulate obvious fabrications, albeit wrapped in a still respectable cover. The so-called factual basis of the document relies on confidential sources that cannot be verified. Outrageous accusations are made based on interviews with alleged victims whose existence cannot be confirmed. And the purpose of the report is obvious – to demonize and dehumanize Russia by making unfounded accusations against Russian military personnel," he said.
"We regret that such a sensitive issue as human sexual integrity is being used by Ukraine and the UN for their opportunistic purposes," Miroshnik stressed."
