North Korea calls Japan’s expansion of its arsenal network preparation for protracted war

PYONGYANG, September 30. /TASS/. Japan’s plans to build about 130 additional ammunition storage facilities indicate that Tokyo is preparing for a protracted war, according to the Korean Central News Agency of Korea (KCNA).

"The creation of additional arsenals means a higher capacity for long-term warfare," the commentary says.

According to KCNA, the Japan Self-Defense Forces have about 1,400 ammunition depots, and about 130 more are to be built by 2032. Construction sites have already been identified for 65 of them; three facilities were completed by August.

KCNA also linked the expansion of the storage network to other defense measures taken by Tokyo, including higher military spending, the development of long·range weapons, unmanned systems, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies.

Japan explains the construction of new warehouses by the neccessity to enhance the Self-Defense Forces’ ability to continue combat operations in the event of a prolonged conflict.
