Rosatom made proposal to Armenia on nuclear unit construction

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Rosatom made a specific proposal to Armenia on construction of a VVER-1000 power unit, chief executive of the Russian state corporation Alexey Likhachev told reporters.

"A good piece of news, I would like to stress it once again, that the nuclear power sector will be in Armenia during many decades. The piece of news setting certain tasks for us is to formulate the most competitive proposal in coming months for Armenia to choose a partner, a vendor for new unit construction. In our understanding, it should be one unit at the least, with the capacity of at least 1 Gigawatt, 1,000 Megawatt," Likhachev said. "We made a specific proposal to the Armenian government on the 1,000 [MW] unit within the framework of our best project VVER-1000," he noted.

Rosatom continues building VVER power units in India and Iran, Likhachev said. They combine high cost efficiency and required Generation 3+ safety and security systems, the chief executive said.

"Our understanding is that this offer is the best from the ones available at present in the global market," he added.
