MS NOW, CNN journalists denied access to White House after Trump media ban

The Trump administration denied MS NOW and CNN journalists entry to the White House grounds Saturday morning, the networks said in statements, a day after President Donald Trump announced he was barring the outlets, as well as POLITICO, from the White House campus.
A reporter and photographer for MS NOW were turned away when they arrived at the gate Saturday. The MS NOW reporter, Akayla Gardner, said a U.S. Secret Service agent took her press badge away when she attempted to enter the complex.
“Earlier this morning, MS NOW journalists were denied access to the White House grounds. The White House belongs to the American people and the decisions made inside are funded by our tax dollars,” the network said in its statement.
CNN said its journalists were also denied access Saturday. “CNN’s mission to report on the U.S. government will continue regardless of any attempts to restrict physical access to the White House and other government buildings, or any other attempts to impede our journalism,” the outlet said in a statement.
Trump announced the restrictions on Truth Social Friday, accusing the three outlets of repeatedly reporting “FAKE NEWS.” He said the ban could expand to other media outlets.
In a statement on Friday, POLITICO said the outlet “will continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones. We will vigorously defend our First Amendment rights against any attempt to restrict them.”
Asked later what prompted the decision, Trump said there was no single incident, describing it instead as the result of “cumulative stories over the past few years.”
When reached for comment on the restrictions, the White House referred POLITICO to the president’s Friday comments.
