Russian senate speaker points to US willingness to facilitate Ukraine peace settlement

ABAKAN, October 20. /TASS/. Moscow and Washington maintain constructive dialogue as the US administration is willing to facilitate peace efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Chair Valentina Matviyenko told reporters.

According to her, the European Union has no moral right to take part in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on resolving the conflict because it staged a coup in Kiev and has no substantive proposals to make.

"As for the United States, constructive dialogue is underway. We do not idolize the Americans because we understand everything and pursue a pragmatic approach. However, we can see a willingness on the part of the United States to facilitate a genuine peace settlement. We’ll see how it goes. Europe, however, has nothing to bring to the negotiating table apart from its animosity and deep-seated Russophobia that remains unchanged," the Federation Council chair noted.
