The execution of Fort Hood attacker Nidal Hasan will not be livestreamed, President Donald Trump announced Thursday.

However, the controversial firing squad execution of the wheelchair-bound mass murderer will take place, the president said.

“Nidal Malik Hasan, a former U.S. Army Major turned traitor, is a very bad and evil man, who killed 13 people, including a pregnant soldier, who died, along with her unborn son, and injured, very seriously, 32 more innocent people. Barack Hussein Obama’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) intercepted electronic communications between Hasan and the radical Yemeni-American cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“When reviewed by his FBI terrorism task force, investigators concluded that Hasan’s emails were not a threat. This assessment of the Obama Administration’s actions was later considered to be a key intelligence failure.

“With all of that being said, I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan but, many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device. He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed. That said, the execution may be viewed in person by the immediate families of the victims.”

The execution is scheduled for Dec. 3.

Hasan, a former Army major and psychiatrist, opened fire at the Texas base in 2009 before he was set to deploy to Afghanistan. He killed 13 and wounded 32. A military jury convicted him of 45 counts of murder. In 2013, he was sentenced to death. Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, a death sentence can not be carried out until it’s approved by the president. Earlier this month, Trump signed off on the execution by firing squad.

The execution is set to be the first carried out by the U.S. military since 1961, and the first federal execution by a firing squad since 1945.

Soon after the president allowed Hasan’s killing to move forward, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced plans to livestream the event.

“People need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” said Hegseth.

However, that proposal was met with immediate backlash by human rights groups and politicians from both sides of the political aisle.

“I absolutely support the sentence of death, but live-streaming executions is what jihadists do,” Rep. Austin Scott, a Georgia Republican, posted on X soon after Hegseth announced his plans. “America is better than that.”

“Hasan should face the death penalty, but making his execution public and streaming it? Beyond disgusting,” Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican and frequent Trump critic, noted. “Public executions are what oppressive dictatorships like Iran and Afghanistan do. It should not be happening in America.”

Democrats also blasted Hegseth for saying he would livestream the event.

“There is no doubt that Nidal Hasan is a murderer who took the lives of 13 people and injured dozens,” Senator Mark Kelly, an Arizona Democrat, stated. “He should face justice for that. But a public execution? Here in the United States? It’s the kind of thing Iran and the Taliban do. Is this who we want to be associated with?”
