Authorities in California are searching for those responsible for the suspected killing of a beloved family husky who was found hanging from a leash behind a doughnut shop.
The 9-year-old dog, named Ruso, was discovered October 5 near the 3500 block of Magnolia Avenue in Lynwood, Los Angeles County, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators are appealing for the public’s help as they interview potential witnesses and pursue leads in the disturbing case.

Ruso’s devastated owner, Filiberto Reyes, believes a man and woman may have been involved in the dog’s death following an encounter outside his home.
Reyes told the Los Angeles Times that a neighbor spotted the pair standing near his property’s fence. He said they may have provoked Ruso, causing the dog to bite the woman.
According to Reyes, the couple subsequently used food to lure the husky out of the yard.
Ruso was later discovered hanging by his leash from a metal security door behind a doughnut shop on Long Beach Boulevard.
Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or confirmed Reyes’ account of what happened.
Reyes described Ruso as a cherished member of his family and recalled the dog’s affectionate personality.
“He was like my son to me,” Reyes told KTLA. “He was a great dog. He was playful, very friendly and full of energy.”
The husky’s death has sparked concern in the Lynwood community, with local officials condemning the suspected act of animal cruelty.
“The city of Lynwood is deeply saddened and disturbed by the reported animal cruelty incident that has caused significant concern throughout our community,” City Councilmember Luis Cellar told the Los Angeles Times.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the dog’s owner and to everyone affected by this deeply troubling situation.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also expressed sympathy for Reyes and his family as detectives continued their investigation.
“Our hearts are with the family of Ruso as the investigation continues,” the department said in a statement.
Deputies are continuing to interview possible witnesses and follow up on information that could help identify those responsible.
No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not publicly established a motive for the dog’s death.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
