A 28-year-old Indiana man is accused of firing a gun inside an IHOP while confronting the cook about sleeping with his wife — before leading police on a high-speed chase that concluded with him crashing into a house.
Authorities in Muncie, about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis, were dispatched to an IHOP Thursday afternoon after receiving reports of a man with a gun.
A 911 caller told police that the suspect, identified as Austen Wable, entered the restaurant and began accusing one of the cooks of having sex with his wife, WTHR reported.
After authorities arrived at the fast-food breakfast chain, they found a firearm sitting on a post and a shell casing next to it.
An IHOP employee who allegedly de-escalated the situation described Wable as “extremely drunk.” The employee told investigators that Wable pushed the cook while yelling, “You f***** my b**** bro.”

The employee told authorities they believed Wable accidentally shot himself in the leg during the scuffle. After the shooting, Wable began chasing the cook with a knife into the parking lot, the employee told authorities.
Wable later fled in his car, speeding away from police as they attempted a traffic stop.
Authorities said Wable reached speeds of over 110 mph, weaved through traffic and drove on the wrong side of the road. According to court documents, the pursuit ended when Wable crashed into a two-story brick house.
Officers said that Wable failed to listen to commands and had to be tased. They said they were unable to speak with him due to his intoxication level, according to court documents.
Court documents viewed by Law & Crime show Wable was convicted in 2021 of carrying a handgun without a license, which prohibits him from carrying a firearm now.
He was arrested on six preliminary felony charges. They include criminal recklessness, intimidation, unlawful carrying of a handgun, pointing a firearm, resisting law enforcement and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to court documents.
Wable is being held at the Delaware County Jail without bond, court records show. He is due for an initial hearing on October 19.
