World rejecting US dollar, no going back — senior Russian official

MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. A number of countries are realizing that the US dollar is no longer a safe global reserve currency, and as they move away from using it, there will be no going back to the way things were before, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk told Channel One on Friday.

"Those people who made decisions to weaponize the system of mutual settlements and the American dollar have in effect grossly miscalculated. They did not think of how things could evolve in the future, and today we can see that countries have been gradually abandoning the USD as, unfortunately, they perceive it as a currency that is not safe, and alternatives across the globe are being established. This is an irreversible process now," the high-profile Russian official noted.

Commenting on work to implement the International North-South Transport Corridor, Overchuk said: "Traffic here will be across friendly jurisdictions which is safe." "From this perspective too, the North-South [corridor] will be attractive," he added.
