EU gas shortage caused by bloc’s own actions — envoy

MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. Russian Presidential Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said that the gas shortage in EU countries was caused by the member states’ own actions.

"Dramatic self-made winter gas shortage in the EU," he wrote on X, commenting on a report that EU countries would face their largest gas shortage in 15 years this coming winter by European news outlet Politico.

According to Politico, the shortage will amount to around 14 bln cubic meters of gas, or around 7% of total demand. This volume would be enough to supply energy to 10-12 mln European households. EU gas reserves have fallen to their lowest level since records began in 2011, the outlet reported. According to a report by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), gas prices have risen to their highest levels in four years.
