Major tech companies, including OpenAI, NVIDIA, Anthropic, Amazon and Google, are contributing $2.4 billion worth of computing resources to support federal science agencies and researchers.
The Trump administration announced Thursday it is expanding the Genesis Mission — an effort to use AI to improve scientific research — to an additional 14 federal agencies. The announcement was part of the White House’s “Science: A New Golden Age” summit.
That expansion includes $1 billion in compute capabilities from NVIDIA over the next five years, $200 million from OpenAI in token discounts and training programs for scientists, $150 million over three years in access to Anthropic’s Claude, and $50 million in cloud credits from Amazon Web Services, according to press statements from the administration and the companies.
“With a $1 billion investment, NVIDIA is putting advanced Super Intelligence in the hands of America’s scientists to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy and materials,” NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement.
Other participating companies include AMD, Emerald AI, Armada, AMP, Crusoe, Google and Micron. A Crusoe spokesperson told POLITICO the company pledged $50 million in compute credits. The other companies didn’t respond to requests for comment.
The project’s expansion comes as the Trump administration pushes for wider AI adoption across the federal government and advancements in the technology to maintain an advantage over China.
National Compute, a new company pooling computing power from major tech companies, is expected to announce plans to donate $100 million worth of computing credits for the Trump administration Thursday. That donation, first reported by POLITICO, is also tied to giving Genesis Mission researchers access to advanced computing resources.
Separately, the Defense Department announced Thursday that it would work with the Genesis Mission fellowship to connect scholars with the Department of Energy.
Other commitments for resources announced by the administration include::
- AMD: $500 million
- Google: $150 million
- AMP: $100 million
- Emerald AI: $100 million
- Armada: $50 million
- Crusoe: $50 million
- Micron: $50 million
