From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it’s investigating the financials of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, ‘The A Word’, which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. President Donald Trump railed against Fox News for not broadcasting his Saturday rally in Ohio as polling increasingly shows a potential wipeout for Republicans.
Trump made a post on Truth Social on Sunday, the day after he held a rally in Vandalia, Ohio, which comes as part of a last-ditch effort to boost Republican turnout before the midterm elections.
“Sad to see that Fox & Friends (Sunday) is not covering our packed house and incredibly enthusiastic (beyond!),” he said. “Sad to see that Fox & Friends (Sunday) is not covering our packed house and incredibly enthusiastic (beyond!).”
The president has increasingly taken an antagonistic approach to the press in recent months. Last month, he banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House premises, which a judge promptly blocked. He also recently banned CNN from Air Force One during his trip to Tennessee.
“Rally that took place in Ohio last night, or the ones in Alabama, Texas, or Oklahoma over the past two days,” he said. “These Election Rallies were representative of what is really happening with our great Republican Party.”
Trump has attempted to rally voters across the country, visiting Alabama and Texas as well. The latter comes as Trump attempts to boost his preferred Senate candidate Ken Paxton, who is trailing in the polls to Democrat James Talarico.
“Our people want to see our Rallies, and reports on our Rallies, on Fox News, or they will very quickly stop watching (like I am doing right now!),” he said.
Trump criticized the fact that Fox has interviewed left-wing Democrats, including Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Michigan. He also criticized Jessica Tarlov, the Democratic talking head on The Five.
“Fox spends more time talking to Communists, Socialists, and Dumocrats, often without rebuttal, and MAGA is not, to put it mildly, happy,” Trump said. “We don’t like stupid Jessica Tarlov, and all of the others, that are forced down MAGA’S throats.”
He also criticized the fact that the network recently removed Maria Bartiromo, one of Trump’s loudest supporters.
“These Rallies are the hottest things out there, tremendous love in those sold-out arenas, and nothing shows up on Fox!” he said. “Also, phenomenal ratings for those that properly report. Who makes these decisions at Fox News? Probably the same loser that fired the great Maria Bartiromo because she complained about not being allowed to cover ‘TRUMP.’”
On Saturday, The New York Times and Siena College released a series of polls showing the numerous Democratic candidates for Senate in Texas, Ohio and Alaska leading while Democratic candidates in Kansas and Iowa are either tied or slightly trailing.
But in a follow-up post, Trump pointed to the fact that pollsters often missed his victories.
“The Polls have ALWAYS underestimated MAGA,” he said. “They try to suppress the Vote, but I won all 7 Swing States, the Popular Vote, 86 percent of Counties, and 99 percent of Primaries this year. I AM ON THE BALLOT!”
A CBS News poll released on Sunday showed that Democrats have a nine-point advantage in the generic congressional ballot, and it projected that Democrats will have 229 House seats while Republicans will have 206 seats.
