Spain’s Parliament on Friday (October 2, 2026) rejected the first of two government measures aimed at tackling a housing crisis that has spurred nationwide protests.

The result of the vote, which dealt a heavy political blow to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, was met with cries of “shame!” by hundreds of protesters outside Parliament. Lawmakers voted 178 against, and 172 in favour of, the government measure.
