UN warns that geopolitical tensions hinder counter-terrorism efforts

UNITED NATIONS, September 28. /TASS/. Growing geopolitical division and tensions hamper the international fight against terrorism, Acting UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Alexander Zuev told TASS.

"Increasing geopolitical fragmentation and tensions have the potential to undermine international cooperation, which is a cornerstone in the fight against terrorism," said Zuev, who also heads the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism.

Zuev emphasized that the UN and its member states should strengthen multilateral cooperation and maintain international unity in the fight against terrorism. At the same time, the effort to counter terrorism threats should remain grounded in international law and, at the same time, adapt to a more sophisticated threat landscape, where modern technologies play an increasingly significant role.
