EU sanctions Russian officials in connection with Yabloko ban

BRUSSELS, September 28. /TASS/. The European Union has imposed sanctions on 10 Russian judges, prosecutors and officials, holding them responsible for preventing the Yabloko party from taking part in the State Duma elections, the Council of the EU said.

The sanctions include a ban on entry into the EU.

On August 10, the Supreme Court granted an administrative lawsuit filed by the Rodina party and annulled the registration of Yabloko’s federal list for the State Duma elections due to violations. In particular, Yabloko conducted campaigning in violation of intellectual property laws, including the use of other people’s creative works without permission from the copyright holders. In addition, the party received funds from individuals who, in turn, had received financing from foreign states.
