Russia launches all-day bombing attack on Kyiv

KYIV — Russia’s armed forces bombarded Kyiv from early Wednesday morning with different types of drones, killing at least two people and injuring 24 more, according to Ukrainian authorities.
“The Russians launched many drones against the city, a significant number of them jet-powered,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement. “Russia continues to turn civilian and critical infrastructure into targets: pharmaceutical facilities, gas stations, railways, communications infrastructure, and shopping malls.”
“There were also strikes on cities and communities in eight regions,” Zelenskyy added.
While world leaders, including Zelenskyy, gathered in New York for the annual United Nations General Assembly, citizens in Kyiv suffered persistent strikes throughout the morning. Large parts of the city were covered in smoke. Russian strikes destroyed Kyiv’s modernist railway market next to the central station and damaged a key pharmaceutical factory. The attacks continued through the day.
In New York, the Ukrainian team has been working to ensure continued support for its resistance — and to apply pressure on Moscow. U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday called on Russian leader Vladimir Putin “to settle the war.”
The Kremlin sees no reason to enter into peace talks at this stage, spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday, but added Russia is always open to talks.
