SCO observers find Russian elections credible, democratic

MOSCOW, September 21. /TASS/. The elections of Russia’s State Duma were transparent, credible, and democratic, Piao Yangfan, the head of the international delegation representing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the organization's Deputy Secretary-General, has said.

She noted that the State Duma elections complied with the requirements of Russian electoral law and universally accepted international obligations.

"The mission itself did not record any violations of national legal norms that could call into question the legitimacy of the elections or influence their results. The mission recognizes the elections as transparent, credible, and democratic. The mission concludes that the elections marked an important step in the further development of Russia," she said, speaking at the Russian Central Election Commission's information center.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to wish the Russian people and the Russian state continued success in safeguarding independence and sovereignty, improving people's well-being, and strengthening the country's potential. In this regard, the SCO will play only a positive role and make its own contribution," she added.
