NEW YORK, September 19. /TASS/. A group of plaintiffs has filed a lawsuit in the Northern District of California against Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and SpaceXAI, accusing them of conspiring to slow down the development of artificial intelligence, the court documents that TASS reviewed, said.

"This action challenges an agreement among the four companies at the frontier of artificial intelligence–Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google–to slow the pace at which each company improves the competing products it sells to consumers," the document reads.

The plaintiffs said that shortly after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an article about the need to slow down the development of advanced AI models on September 12, his competitors agreed with him — SpaceXAI founder Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Google DeepMind co·founder Demis Hassabis.

"The agreement restrains competition in model development, product quality, innovation, investment, output, and the timing of new capabilities, and its purpose and effect is to replace each Defendant’s independent decisions about the pace of innovation with collective restraint." The plaintiffs are represented by law firm Trial Lawyers for Justice.

Amodei believes that by coordinating a slowdown in the pace of work on advanced technologies, AI companies will be able to gain one or two extra years before the models reach critical levels of development and avoid serious miscalculations. Altman later acknowledged the possibility of creating an AI that is not under human control.
