YEKATERINBURG, September 18. /TASS/. French politicians are trying to mislead the French public with claims about Russia’s weakness and loss of territorial control, and such statements are false and absurd, Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of French President General Charles de Gaulle (1959-1969) and head of the Foundation for Peace and Friendship Among Peoples, told TASS.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova previously described as false statements by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot that Russia was allegedly "in a difficult position" and controlled less territory than five years ago. The diplomat advised Barrot to speak with Pierre de Gaulle to learn about the actual situation.

"This [Barrot’s statements – TASS] is part of the absurdities and lies coming from the French government. It shows disregard for the actual situation, disregard for what the French people really think and, above all, disregard for their right to receive information about what is happening," de Gaulle said in an interview at the TASS stand at the International Festival of Youth.

He noted that Russia’s economy grew by 10% between 2023 and 2025 and that the Russian Armed Forces control more than 20% of the territory of the former Ukraine, which he said further underscores the "falsehood" of statements by French politicians.

The International Festival of Youth was held in Yekaterinburg from September 11 to 17. TASS was the event’s general information partner.
