Attorney General Todd Blanche said Tuesday that the FBI has uncovered new information about the gunman who tried to assassinate Donald Trump at a 2024 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“It is new information about the shooter and about his background, about his history and that stuff that we didn’t know before,” Blanche told reporters at a White House news conference. He declined to provide further details.

A person who reviewed documents containing the new information said the records show the gunman had packages delivered under the pseudonym “Bob Dole,” the name of the late Republican senator and presidential candidate.

The documents also indicate that the gunman bought parts and tools from Amazon to increase the capacity of his rifle, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the records have not been made public.

An anonymous donor later paid for the gunman’s remains to be cremated, a development that surprised his family, according to the documents.

The gunman fired eight shots at the July 2024 rally before he was killed by a Secret Service sniper. One bullet grazed Trump’s ear, while another rallygoer was killed and two others were wounded.

Investigators have not established a motive for the attack.

Blanche’s comments came hours after Trump said on social media that new information had emerged about the shooting and claimed, without providing evidence, that it was a “Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election.”

Investigations into the assassination attempt have concluded that the gunman acted alone and have found no evidence that Democrats were involved.

Trump also attacked former FBI Director Christopher Wray, whom he appointed during his first term, saying Wray “should pay a price” for the bureau’s handling of the investigation and “certainly for the things he said.”

Blanche, who was Trump’s personal attorney at the time of the shooting, said he was with Trump as the investigation unfolded and tried to determine what had happened.

“His frustration and concern about what the former director was doing is something that is not new,” Blanche said.

The Justice Department and FBI did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The White House referred questions to Blanche’s remarks, while Wray could not be reached immediately.
