LOS ANGELES — A trespasser was stopped on Kamala Harris’ Malibu property Friday night, a spokesperson for the former vice president and local law enforcement confirmed.

Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not home at the time, Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, said.

“Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home,” he said. “Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff were not present. They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.”

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Malibu Lost Hills sheriff deputies were contacted around 10:30 pm on Friday for a suspicious person call. The trespasser, who had already been found by private security, was outside the property when they arrived and was “warned and advised by deputies to leave the premises and left voluntarily without incident.”

The department said it was increasing patrols in the area as a precaution.

Harris bought the $8.15 million beach house in December, sparking speculation about whether the purchase in a celebrity-filled, private enclave hinted that she might not run again in 2028.

The news of the trespasser, first reported by TMZ, is likely to renew attention to Harris’ security. Then-President Joe Biden extended the duration of her federal protection from the typical six months afforded to former vice presidents. President Donald Trump ended that protection last summer.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said California Highway Patrol would take up the task. The cost of Harris’ security detail to the state has not been disclosed.
